Ridgway Outfitters & Guide Service
Hello, and thank you for choosing Ridgway Outfitters and Guide Service. My family and myself will do everything we possibly can to make your hunt and stay with us a most enjoyable one and hopefully you will go back home with a trophy of a lifetime.

I would like to take some time to tell you what you can expect on your hunt. Each bait site is selected by myself as if I was going to hunt it. I don't guarantee a kill, but I will guarantee that all the baits are active bear baits. All the baits are baited and maintained by myself and no one else. The baits are set up in such a way so that a broadside shot is presented. I feel this is the best shot angle for fast and clean kill.

The shot distance is approximately 15 yards. Tree stand height is about 15 ft. There are a few sites that ground blinds can be utilized. On the average I run 2 to 3 baits per hunter. Tree stands are provided but you must bring a safety belt or harness of your choice, safety is first and formost.

The weather can vary greatly this time of the year from day time highs in the eighties to below freezing at night. As the sun goes down it tends to cool off rather fast so you may want to bring an extra jacket with you to your stand. You want to be as comfortable as possible while in the stand. When bear hunting you want to sit as still as possible until the bear is at the bait eating. The bear already knows you are there, any unnecessary movement and he will leave long before you ever get to see it or get a shot at it.

I use a blood hound trained for tracking wounded bears, so after you have shot your trophy there is no need and I strongly advise against tracking the bear on your own. We will go out the next morning with the dog and proper equipment to retrieve it. If you choose there is a local taxidermist in the area who mounts approximately one hundred bears a year or I will help in the skinning of your trophy. I have freezers on site to freeze your hide and meat.

In order to obtain a Maine hunting license you will need to bring with you a hunting license or a hunter safety card from which state you come from.
